Good morning, Jan!
Thank you so much for bringing this Commemorative book about Deaconess Martha Boss to our attention. I would like to acquire a copy for the "LCMS Deaconess Biographies Project," which was launched in June 2009 with myself as the Project Director. [We will have a website up and running in a couple of weeks and I'll let you know when that happens.] Could you please post some contact details for the book for those of us who might want to acquire a copy?
May God continue to bless your work for Him!
Note: If anyone is interested in getting a copy of the book, you can contact lwmlpres@lwml.org
Your fellow servant in Christ,
Deaconess Cheryl D. Naumann

Just this week as I was reading the Genesis account of Sarai attempting to help God along with his promise of an heir by convincing Abram to sleep with her maidservant, Hagar. I couldn't help but think of other instances of Biblical women exerting pressure and influence on their mates. Often their motives were good but other times not so much. As with Sarai and Hagar, or Eve and the apple, the outcomes can have far reaching effects. My 'shazam' moment came when I began to ponder the pressure I exert on my spouse in an effort to speed up God's plan in our lives.

In 2009 for my daily bible reading I used a Bible that went through scripture in a chronological time line for the readings. I found it extremely helpful to read scripture in this order with the words of the prophets interleaved with the history books like Chronicles. It was neat also to read the prophets who were contemporaries of one another deliver their messages to Israel. In reading the New Testament it was great to read the Gospel accounts of the various events in the life of Jesus laid out through the lens of the each Gospel writer.
For 2010 I am focusing on meditating and memorizing scripture with the goal of a passage each 2 weeks with various number of verses and letting those words speak to me for a couple of weeks instead of reading a new passage each day.

I was so encouraged while watching Home & Garden (HGTV) during the Parade, that they plugged the Pedal Pushers and the 60th anniversary.
I was disappointed however that there wasn't any type of input about the theme of this float and the significance of the men on that float and what they were holding.
Finally - PRAISE GOD - that we are able to have our LLL float in this parade every year as a testimony of the continued blessings and never changing WORD OF GOD.

Just this morning I was reflecting on my tendency to get wrapped up in tasks and fretting over details that God really has not put on my plate. As I begin this new year, I want to focus more on being about my Father's business.

This sheds light on a different perspective, doesn't it? We are all unique and individual, but yet 'our world' can seem so small when met with a similarity, such as a name. It definitely calls us to that which you directed - what are we doing with the earthly life that God has gifted us?

Contentment is such a huge issue today - even among believers. Resting in His abiding, unchanging, enough-ness is a challenge for me. I am thankful for quiet times with Him when I am again reminded that His grace is sufficient for me.
