Gifts From the Heart

March-April 2010

Ideas for Gifts from the Heart

Look at some of the themes related to feet and Gifts from the Heart ingatherings that districts have chosen for their 2010 Conventions.

English District

  • “Beautiful Feet for the Journey” Nahum 1:15a Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace…"

Gulf States District

  • Come to the Mountain, Walk With the Lord” Micah 4:2 Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.”
  • Gifts from the Heart ingathering: New or gently worn shoes for “Two Shoes” and “Shoes That Fit” in Alabama

Michigan District

  • ”Beautiful Feet” Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, Your God reigns!”
  • Gifts from the Heart ingathering: Socks for a women’s center.

Missouri District

  • ”Beautiful Feet…Led by God” Isaiah 52:7 7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, Your God reigns!”
  • Gifts from the Heart ingathering: School-age athletic shoes and socks

Minnesota South District

  • “God’s GPS- Turn Right at the Light” Psalm 119:105: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

New Jersey District

  • ”Walking in the Light” Isaiah 2:5 Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord.
  • Gifts from the Heart ingathering. A bare foot that needs a Sole….Have you ever looked in your closet and noticed an extra pair of shoes that you knew you would probably never wear? “Soles for Souls” is an organization that collects gently used or new shoes and distributes them across the world to those in need. We ask that if you have one or two pair of shoes in your closet that you bring it with you to the convention. The shoes will be gathered and packaged for shipment

For Your Information
At the February 2010 LWML Board of Directors Meeting the Human Care Committee collected 530 packages of Instant Soup and Ramen Noodles for the Soup Kitchen at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Saint Louis. Also the ladies brought 620 assorted female personal care items for the deaconess students, wives and daughters of seminary students who use the Co-op Food Bank at Concordia Seminary St. Louis. Coupons and cash were also received for the Food Bank.

Sharing and Networking
Please share your district, zone, and local society ideas for Gifts from the Heart ingatherings you have planned for this upcoming year. Send to Donna Gruel, Chairman, Human Care Committee, dphc@lwml.org.

REMEMBER - When planning for Gifts from the Heart ingatherings, always check with your local agencies for specific needs and ask them if you may include Christian literature.
