Litany for Gifts from the Heart

WHAT CAN WE DO?

“I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12 NIV)

Leader: Christ told His disciples that through faith they could do greater things—not acts of a more miraculous nature, but of mighty measure.

We, too, are His disciples. With faith and through faith we can bring help to the helpless and hope to the hopeless. The Gospel, like a blanket, can be spread over the entire planet.

Jesus looked into the unlovely face of a leper and healed him. What can we do?

People: We can help finance medical facilities where they are needed; we can support the training of Lutheran doctors and nurses who can bring healing to the sick and relief for the dying with compassion and with the message of salvation.

Leader: Jesus ate with Pharisees and sinners, with immoral and unsavory characters.  What can we do?

People: We can place Bibles and Christian literature in public places, in prisons, and in houses of correction; we can support our Synod’s radio and television ministries and its social service agencies. As we have the ability, we can reach out and love the unlovable.

Leader: Jesus fed the five thousand. What can we do?

People: In our home communities we can provide food baskets for the hungry. With our donations to Lutheran World Relief we can feed the starving and send agricultural experts to Third World countries to teach productive methods of farming.

Leader: Jesus cured the demon-possessed, the epileptic, and those with disorders of the mind and spirit. What can we do?

People: We can make our homes and churches places of peace. We can support the Christian institutions that provide therapy, counseling, and rehabilitation.

Leader: Jesus took up the little children in His arms and blessed them. What can we do?

People:  For those children who are born into a life of poverty, need, or neglect, we can provide clothing, food, and nurture. We can also help to provide Christian instruction by supporting the educational programs of our church from preschool through college.

Leader: Jesus taught in the temple and daily life situations. He prayed. What can we do?

People: We, too, can pray for others and show our Christian faith in our daily lives by following the example of Jesus.

Leader: Jesus forgave sins. What can we do?

People: We can remind others that God loves the world so much that He gave His one and only Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Leader: “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” (John 21: 25)

People: Help us, Lord, as individuals and as Lutheran women in mission to follow Your examples to serve wherever and whenever You need us. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.
