PHILIPPINES TYPHOON DISASTER RELIEF
The pictures on the Internet and evening news of Typhoon Haiyan can be so overwhelming that it is almost impossible for a person to wrap their mind around what is taking place. As the numbers of this tragedy continue to be published, along with the plans to send aid to the area and the opportunities to help in providing that aid, we are blessed to be able to be a part of this caring as well. The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is known for sharing care and compassion in all corners of our world. Now we have an opportunity to give again. God calls us to share what we have with “the least of these” and in doing so, we also give to Him. The LWML supports The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in its goal to send $150,000 in aid. Please take time to pray about how you and your family can help and then go to LCMS Pledges for Philippines Typhoon Relief.
Dear Heavenly Father, We pray for Your protection on those in the Philippines as many have lost their homes, family members, and way of life. Lord, You have blessed us so abundantly with all that we need to support our bodies and lives. Empower Your children now to share their talents and treasures as You would have us do. As it is Your will, allow Your Word to be spread with the physical aid that will be shared in the Philippines in the coming weeks and months. May our hearts and minds be open to what You need us to do. In Jesus, Your forgiving Son’s name. Amen.
Quilts: Ministry for Local, Regional, Global Missions
Serving God, serving others, and serving together has led a group of 15 women from Martin Luther Chapel, Pennsauken, New Jersey, to create quilted blankets for the last 40 years. Helen Gormley and two other women did the sewing while others cut and pieced. Many of the women are no longer here to help Helen, but she continues to makes the quilts in the basement of her home.
Helen recently suggested donating quilts to the victims of Hurricane Sandy on the Jersey shore and, as a result, 40 large quilts and 30 child quilts were delivered to a distribution center in Toms River, New Jersey. These quilts are an expression of love for neighbors and given to help those in need.
The women are also committed to bringing 25 quilts to the 2013 LWML convention in Pittsburgh. For the full story, click on Mission Servants in Action, then click on March - English- Quilts: Ministry for Local, Regional, Global Missions.
