PRAY FOR THE FOLLOWING CONVENTIONS BEING HELD ON MAY 14-16, 2004:

The New England District convention will be held in Lowell, Massachusetts. The theme is "Always Believe in Christ" from John 3:16. Additional information about this convention can be found at the following site: http://www.ned-lwml.org/events/distconv2004.html. Jan Wendorf, vice president of Christian Life will be the representative.

The New Jersey District convention will be held in Parsippany, New Jersey. The theme is "Jesus is the Light of the World" from John 8:12. LWML representative will be Rev. Larry Miller, counselor.

The Oregon District convention will be held in Portland, Oregon. The theme is "River of Love - Hope of Glory" from Psalm 33:22. President Linda Reiser will represent the LWML.

Six more conventions go into the history books! These conventions celebrated God's blessings the first and second weekends in May.

Atlantic District - "Be Mirrors, Reflect God's Glory" The four vice presidents led and conducted the business of the convention. The certificate of appreciation was presented to Jim McHugh in memory of Joan for her service to her Lord and the Atlantic District LWML. Judy Knebel, Vice President of Gospel Outreach, was the representative. We welcome the new president of the Atlantic District, Maureen Consiglio. Maureen was elected for a 2 year term.

English District - "Faith for Today-Hope for Tomorrow-Love for Eternity" Sylvia Johnson chaired her first convention. Marguerite Christman, Vice President of Servant Resources was the representative.

Louisiana/Mississippi - "Lord of my Heart, our Hope" Erma Winston chaired this convention of 132 attending. Kaye Cairns, Vice President of Human Care was the representative. We welcome the new president of the LA/MS District, Marcia Wittenburg.

Montana - "The Lord Jesus Christ our Hope" Jo Young chaired her final convention and 136 were in attendance. President Linda Reiser was the representative. We welcome the new president of the Montana District, Pam Kercher.

SELC - "One in Spirit, One in Purpose" Millicient Kwaitkowski chaired this convention and passed the mantle of leadership to the new SELC president, Ann Bajus whom we welcome. Planner Barb Volk was the representative. Utah-Idaho - "God's Cascading Love" Sherrie Prien chaired her first convention. They had 15 YWRs present! Jan Wendorf, Vice President of Christian Life was the representative.

South Dakota - "Joyful in Hope" Dianne Diekmann was elected the new president at their convention. President Linda Reiser was the representative.

PRAISE THE LORD!

Mite receipts through March 31 for the first half of the biennium totaled $704,614.77. Because of that, the following grants have now received funding:

  • Lutheran Adoption Network $75,000 - paid in full
  • Immigrant Afghani Women and Children's Ministries $100,000 - paid in full
  • A first payment of $4500 for MOST Ministries NEW Christians Project

IN MEMORIAM

A faithful servant of the Lord, Thelma Kamman (Oklahoma District President 1992-1996), has been called home to be with the Lord. She died in her sleep before 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 1 in Adelaide, South Australia. Thelma and her husband Harold were on a tour led by Dave and Barb Anderson. A memorial Service was held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City, last Friday May 7. Thelma served as the OK district Special Gifts committee chairman since 1998 and she was the Special Dress Chairman for OKC 2003 Convention. She was 80 years young! THE LUTHERAN WOMEN'S MISSIONARY LEAGUE

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), with a membership of over 250,000, is the official women's auxiliary of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The LWML focuses on affirming each woman in her relationship with Christ to enable her to be in ministry among the people of the world. For over 60 years the LWML has been encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to financially support global mission.
