June 2, 2004Welcome to the 9th issue of Lutheran Women in Mission e-News! To date, there are over 900 subscribers. Please forward and share this news and encourage others to stay in touch with LWML by email. The connection among Lutheran women is strong, as we serve and praise our Lord together. WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY IN LWML?Fourteen conventions are completed and over 3000 women and 125 official YWRs have been in attendance to joyfully celebrate God's blessings this biennium in their districts. All 14 districts have raised their mite goal for the next biennium. Thirteen of these districts met and exceeded their past mite goal so mission grants and scholarships were fully funded! Praise be to God for His faithfulness in the hearts of LWML women! New England District - Donna Gruel passed the gavel to newly elected president Dorothy Pettit. The theme for the convention was "ABC - Always Believe in Christ." New Jersey District - Gladys Nesko chaired her first convention. The theme was - "Jesus is the Light of the World." Oregon District - Julia Riess transferred the gavel to newly elected president Nancy Nibblett. The theme for the convention was "River of Love, Hope of Glory." The women of the Oregon District celebrated meeting their mite goal and voted to send an extra $1,200 for the national goal. Thanks and praise to God for the blessings He has given the Oregon District and their hearts to give and to love! Speakers and programming at all these conventions has been receiving outstanding remarks and have impacted lives and touched hearts. Newly elected officers, including 9 new presidents have been installed and are building their TEAM in these districts. Blessings to all of you and thanks for your prayers for these district conventions and those who traveled to speak and serve as LWML representatives. MITE REPORT:As of the end of April, $776,560.24 was received for the 2003-2005 mission goal. That represents 13 months of the biennium. NEW WEB SITE:The Ohio District LWML now has its own Web site! THE LUTHERAN WOMEN'S MISSIONARY LEAGUEThe Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), with a membership of over 250,000, is the official women's auxiliary of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The LWML focuses on affirming each woman in her relationship with Christ to enable her to be in ministry among the people of the world. For over 60 years the LWML has been encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to financially support global mission.
