Sending Bosnian New Americans to Lutheran School
by Donna Streufert

Two young Bosnian children will feel the impact of your convention offerings for years to come. Rev. Tony Boos, Mission Facilitator for Christian Friends of New Americans and Missionary to Bosnians in St. Louis, MO, tells how the 2003 LWML convention offering will fund two young students at Green Park Lutheran School in St. Louis.

"We decided to use some of the generous offering we received to send two of our summer campers to Lutheran grade school this year," Rev. Boos explains. "Another of our campers, Sanel Menkovic, attended a Lutheran grade school for three years and now openly says he believes in Jesus as his Savior. After this heart-warming experience, we could see the eternal value of sending Bosnian new Americans to Lutheran schools.

"After much prayer and with the Holy Spirit's leading, we asked Anela and Anel Topcagic if they would be interested in attending a private Christian school. Anela had written a note to the camp counselors earlier in the summer thanking them for teaching her about heaven and Jesus. One day, while riding in the camp van, she exclaimed, 'I believe in Jesus!'

"It was clear to us this would be the family to sponsor. Anela and Anel's father was killed in the war in Bosnia. They have lived in the United States with their mother for five years as refugees. Their conversational English is very good and they are both well-behaved children. Their mother appreciated our offer, since, like other Bosnians, she was growing unhappy with the school her children were attending.

"What an excellent place for these children to learn of God's love in Jesus. At our camp they read the Bible for the first time. Now they will be reading it every day at school. They will go to chapel and have wonderful Christian teachers and friends. We pray that their experience at Green Park Lutheran School will impact not only Anela and Anel, but also their mother and other family members as well. Please keep them in your prayers."
