LWML Grant Proposals for 2005 Convention

1. LBT
National Co-Workers Training Scholarships $44,000
To provide scholarships to qualified nationals, both men and
women, for the education and training needed to take leadership
of Bible translation and literacy work.
2. CAME-Reaching Asian Immigrants $50,000
To identify, recruit, train and mentor Asian missionaries and
evangelists through Center for Asian Mission and Evangelism (CAME)
to reach out with the Gospel to the 97% unchurched Asians in
North America.
3. Lutheran Blind Mission Outreach Program $32,000
To support the funding of an outreach conference and seminar
for directors of blind centers, enabling them to learn from each
other and improve strategies to show Jesus' love to blind and
visually impaired people.
4. Expansion of Mission Outreach Training-USA $80,000
To help fund the expansion of the Leadership Advancement Process
(LAP) Word and Service mission and outreach training program
designed to educate, encourage, equip and mobilize lay men and
women to reach the uncommitted people in North America.
5. Gospel Outreach and Church Planting with
Childcare Ministry $70,000
To help establish LCMS Word and Sacrament churches in communities
and expand programs of outreach and nurture in existing congregations
by assisting establishment of child care ministries.
6. Urban, Ethnic School Expansion-East St. Louis,
IL $75,000
To help fund additional classroom space, enabling more ethnic
children, caught in the bleak circle of low achievement levels
and fears, to learn God's love, self-esteem, academic and social
skills found in a Lutheran school.
7. Kiswahili New Testament-Braille $54,411
To produce the New Testament in Kiswahili Braille for blind persons
in Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda.
8. Multi-National Russian Jewish Outreach $100,000
To underwrite Russian Jewish evangelism by providing printing
equipment in Russia and Israel, leadership training, and development
of outreach program and production of Lutheran confessional materials
in Russian, tailored for Jewish evangelism.
9. Brazilian Mission in Boston $30,000
To purchase Portuguese Bibles and musical instruments for worship,
subsidize advertising and administrative expenses, and an emergency
fund for new immigrant needs for the Portuguese community around
Boston.
10. Hispanic Outreach-West Houston, TX $40,000
To systematically reach for Christ the burgeoning Hispanic population
in W. Houston using indigenous lay leadership, church planting
and community impact.
11. Responding to HIV/AIDS Among Congregations
in Kenya $51,000
To support through Lutheran World Relief, the physical, psychological
and spiritual needs of people affected by and living with HIV/AIDS,
providing training for caregivers and guardians of orphans, educational
materials and counseling through established Lutheran congregations.
12. South Asian School Start-Queens, New York $90,377
To help start Lutheran preschool and kindergarten outreach programs
as a demonstration of Jesus' love to the large South Asian community
in Queens.
13. Expanding Ministries to Youth and Adults
in Southwest Alaska $75,000
To increase the successful ministries in this remote region by
training leaders and mentors, establishing worshipping communities,
and initiating youth ministries with Bible studies, camps and
peer ministry training.
14. Inner City Mission and Ministry-Buffalo,
New York $100,000
To renovate a warehouse into a multi-purpose Ministry Outreach
and Family Life Center, provide pastoral support monies, Bibles,
Sunday School materials and training for evangelism, thereby
offering hope to this low income, crime infested community.
15. Shipping Orphan Grain Train Containers to Africa and
Russia $30,000
To finance shipment of containers filled with humanitarian aid
such as quilts, health kits medical supplies, and religious materials
like Bibles and Portals of Prayer, for distribution by the Lutheran
churches of Africa and Russia.
16. Lutheran Teachers in Sierra Leone $84,000
To meet the urgent need for Lutheran teachers who will help erase
the literacy void of this impoverished, war-torn country, and
teach Christian values and God's love.
17. Lutheran Leaders' Training Institute-Pakistan $75,000
To help construct a secure facility in Pakistan for workers from
the Middle East who will train men and women national church
leaders, professors, pastors, deaconesses who will serve in their
own countries.
18. Ablaze! Implementation in North America $100,000
To develop training programs and materials for the involvement
of LCMS' wide variety of membership in order to reach the North
American Ablaze! goal of reaching 50 million people by 2017.
19. Sunday School Teacher Training-Poland $30,000
To train Polish Lutheran educators with new teaching methods
and materials to reach the children and youth, and creating opportunities
for them to exercise their skills in local
congregations, camps and other outreach events.
20. Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology-Deaconess
Training $100,000
To provide tuition assistance for 15-20 ethnic women students,
development of five courses, support for a cross-cultural woman
coordinator, and recruitment expenses.
21. Concordia Welfare and Education Society-China $100,000
To show Christ's love in three key areas of people's lives, particularly
women and children, by offering aid in traditional education,
health and sanitation, and rural development in China, where
by law, evangelism is not allowed.
