Three LWML Districts Met in Convention
September 16–17, 2016

LWML Carolinas District

"May God Embrace Us with His Grace," from Psalm 67:1–7, served as the convention theme as LWML Carolinas District President Carolyn Smith welcomed 80 enthusiastic attendees in Summerville, South Carolina. Rev. Dr. Brent Smith, Executive Director for Mission Development of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod Southeastern District, shared insight during his keynote address on ways to “BLESS” others. He quoted Dr. Bruce Jaeger’s initiative and acronym to Bond, Learn, Engage, Serve, Share and said, “Don’t get stuck on the bus of safety and not BLESS others. It’s okay to get a little bit goofy for Jesus.” Philip Jaseph, former Globally Engaged in Outreach Missionary, gave a heartfelt talk about his mission experiences in Kenya.

LWML Nebraska South District

The LWML Nebraska South District met in convention under the theme “Partakers of Grace,” based on Philippians 1:7. Over 370 men and women joined together in Kearney, Nebraska, as President Linda Fees led the final convention of her term. They rejoiced in welcoming 43 first timers, 15 Young Woman Representatives (YWRs), and ten teens in serving the Lord with gladness. Jan Struck provided humorous interruptions throughout the convention and brought focus to the theme during the banquet. Keynote Speaker Heidi Floyd spoke on God’s plan during her bouts with breast cancer and Lutheran Church Charities Comfort Dogs, Moses and Eddie, helped bring tangible meaning to the type of work supported by the women of the LWML. Katy Gifford was elected as the new LWML Nebraska South District President.

LWML Southern Illinois District

The women of the LWML Southern Illinois District assembled around the theme “Bountiful Blessings—Abundant Fruits,” based on 2 Corinthians 9:8. Held at Our Savior Lutheran High School in Evansville, Illinois, President Brenda Schoenbeck led her first convention with 242 in attendance, including four YWRs and ten Pastors. Keynote Speaker Katie Schuermann, author of the book, “Pew Sisters,” expanded on the convention theme to encourage and build up the faith of Christian sisters with blessings abounding in Christ. She said every woman sitting in the pew has a story to share of God’s faithfulness in her life.
