Lutheran Women in Mission Plan Two-Year Program of Work

ST. LOUIS, MO - Nearly 70 women from across the United States met in St. Louis during the week of October 13, 2003 to plan the program of work for the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) for the next two years. Among those women were members of the Executive Committee, chairmen and committee members of the Christian Life Department, Communication Department, Gospel Outreach Department, Human Care Department and Servant Resources Department.

During opening remarks, LWML president Linda Reiser said "We have been blessed to be focused on missions, to be strengthened in our service and to be surrounded by sisters from coast to coast who share the same love for their Lord, the same commitment to making a difference and the same joy of serving with their gifts in this organization."

At convention in Oklahoma City, OK in June, the league of over 250,000 women recently set a mission grant goal of $1,575,000. This goal is to be achieved by March 31, 2005 through personal donations and will be disbursed among 14 mission organizations here and abroad.

The 2003-2005 program of work supports the mission grant goal through production of inspirational programs and materials that assist the organization's hundreds of societies with retreat planning, personal Christian growth and development of leadership skills.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), with a membership of over 250,000, is the official women's auxiliary of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The LWML focuses on affirming each woman in her relationship with Christ to enable her to be in ministry among the people of the world. For over 60 years the LWML has been encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to financially support global mission.
