Devotion on Seasons of Life, Relationship with God, Hebrews 12:2. 2 pages.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2, NIV).
I chose the NIV translation of Hebrews 12 because of that single word: author. … That word holds interesting and
meaningful theological implications. To begin with, it reminds us that our faith is a type of written story. Still, it is not like the stories I spend my time writing; when it comes to my faith, I am not in control. When we acknowledge Jesus as both Author and Word, it becomes impossible for us to have an active role in the creation or success of our faith. Not only does He create the plot, He makes Himself the very building block that creates the story — the Word.
