Leader Development...Developing Leaders

Hello from the LWML Leader Development Committee.  Welcome to our link on the LWML Web site. We are a committee that works as a TEAM (Together Everyone Accomplishes More) with Jesus as our Leader. We serve with confidence knowing He will lead and guide us as we read in Psalm 25:5a NIV: “Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are my God and Savior.”

Our committee has two objectives:

  • Women are provided resources and opportunities to become competent and comfortable in leadership roles.
  • Young women will grow and mature in the LWML as potential leaders.

What are you doing to help LWML women become more competent and comfortable in their leadership roles?  How have you helped a young woman grow and mature in the LWML as a potential leader?

We’d love to hear from you.  Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.  E-mail our committee at depsr@lwml.org and put Leader Development in the subject line so the message can be forwarded to us.

God’s blessings to you as we work together for further His kingdom.

MENTORING BRUNCH
(Explanation)

Purpose: To provide an immediate opportunity for the Young Woman Representative (YWR) to become involved in the LWML.

Setting: After a YWR has attended an LWML or district convention, her desire to be involved has tremendously increased.  This energy can be captured by asking the YWR to be on a district or zone planning committee to organize a mentoring brunch.  This brunch could be part of a regular zone or district celebration or rally that would be held the fall following the LWML or district convention.

Objectives: By serving on this committee, the YWR will be able to:

  • Experience the workings of a short-term committee on the zone or district level of LWML.
  • Take on a limited amount of responsibility without the concern of being overloaded, and
  • Express her enthusiasm and gratitude for the experience of attending a convention as the YWR.

Program: The suggested speakers vary according to whether this brunch is held on the zone or district level.  There should be a combination of speakers from zone/district or district/LWML to visually demonstrate a mentoring type working relationship within the LWML.

Set Up: The planning committee should decide if the attendees will be seated with mentors in a one-on-one relationship or in a small group setting.  This will depend on the number of people who will attend.  The committee will also determine the date, time, place and food to be served.  This event should be publicized well in advance and via multiple media with personal invitations being preferred to women of all generational, ethnic and family backgrounds to “get together” for Christian fellowship

Follow the link below for the Mentoring Brunch program. This suggested program was published in the LWML resource “Share Life: Be A Mentor” by Joanna Maurer and revised by the LWML Leader Development Committee in 2009.

LUTHERAN WOMEN'S MISSIONARY LEAGUE
2007-2009 Biennium

Primary Targets

  • Christ-Centered Living – Being nourished by the Word and guided by the Spirit, each woman is actively demonstrating God’s love.

  • Telling the Good News – In response to our Lord’s Great Commission, each woman is compelled to share the Gospel, pray for, and recognize opportunities to do so, and then confidently live and speak her faith.

  • Partnering for Diversity – Oneness in Christ is strengthened through intentionally teaming with our LCMS sisters of varied ethnic, cultural, generational and organizational backgrounds.

  • Building Up Our Sisters in Christ – LWML members grow and mature through mentoring relationships and through the training and support of current and potential leaders.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Leader Development Committee is to support and encourage present and future leaders.

Committee Objectives

  1. Women are provided resources and opportunities to become competent and comfortable in leadership roles.

  2. Young women will grow and mature in the LWML as potential leaders.

LWML Mission Statement:  The mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.
