Women Leaders in the Bible
In your personal Bible study, you may want to review Scriptural
examples of other women leaders:
- The Samaritan woman (John 4:1-42), who despite being
an outcast, brought people from her community to meet Jesus.
- Prophetesses, like the aged Anna (Luke 2:36-38), who
recognized the infant Christ, and Philip's four daughters (Acts
21:8-9). Also note Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17.
- Rahab, a prostitute who was blessed to become an ancestress
of Christ (Joshua 2 and 6:17-25; Matthew 1:5).
She protected the spies sent by Joshua and as a result saved
her family when Jericho was destroyed.
- Wise woman of Tekoa (2 Samuel 14:1-20), whose ability
as an actress resulted in the eventual reconciliation of David
and Absalom.
- Abigail (1 Samuel 25:1-42; 2 Samuel 3:3), who saved
her husband and their household from destruction by David and
his men.
- Lydia (Acts 16:12-15, 40; Philippians 1:10), a hospitable
businesswoman whose entire household was converted.
- Dorcas (Acts 9:36-43), who led by her example of service.
