Almost 2,800 women and men will travel to Lexington this week to attend the 39th Biennial Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Convention to worship together, serve the community, hear from missionaries in the field, and conduct the necessary business of the organization. The LWML Board of Directors thanks God for this opportunity and asks for prayers of safe travel.

MITES IN ACTION SPEAKER — Ruth Richert Martin

2017–2019 LWML Mission Grant #21, Family Scholarships for Short Term Mission Trips

Ruth Richert Martin, Executive Director of Mission Opportunities Short Term (MOST) Ministries, has been ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of lost and hurting people in over 50 countries for the past 31 years. Ruth will be one of LWML’s Mites in Action speakers at the convention. Missionaries around the world send requests for help with projects such as clean water outreach, construction, health education, and music and/or sports camps. MOST trains and sends short-term mission teams to help provide for these physical and spiritual needs. It is a commitment to the Great Commission that has compelled MOST Ministries to go far and near for the sake of the Gospel since 1989.

Ruth has tremendous respect for the LWML. She believes that “LWML members are the workhorses of the LCMS and are an indispensable partner with MOST Ministries in carrying out the Great Commission. It’s truly amazing what the LWML has done and continues to do to further God’s kingdom!”

New Series for LWML On The Go Podcasts

LWML’s next podcast series will feature four “I Love to Tell the Story” submissions. These are personal stories of witness opportunities from LWML women across the United States. The circumstances, characters, and outcomes vary, but God’s Good News remains the central focus. Listen, and be encouraged!

  • June 30: “Where’s the Bread?” submitted by Christine Maconachy, LWML Chesapeake District
  • July 7: “Love Like That” submitted by Deborah Young, LWML North Wisconsin District
  • July 14: “Afraid? Of What?” submitted by Alicia Starrett-Seidel, LWML New Jersey District
  • July 21: “Measured Risks” Submitted by Christine Maconachy, LWML Chesapeake District

“I Love to Tell the Story” narratives are found at www.lwml.org/tell-the-story. We are seeking new authors! Stories, including a relevant Bible verse and devotion, submitted in a Word document, are requested. They can be emailed to the Vice President of Gospel Outreach at depgo@lwml.org.

Instructions on how to access the LWML On The Go Podcasts are available here, but many women find it easiest to listen to them on their smartphone through the LWML app. The LWML app is free through the app store on your phone.

Podcasts are flexible. Tune in anytime that fits your schedule, and join host Eden Keefe. Each podcast contains a narrative and a prayer from an LWML resource and lasts about ten minutes.
