God Works Through LWML Mission Grants!

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) praises God for faithful givers who, by the grace of God, have made possible the funding of another Mission Grant for the 2013-2015 biennium.

The final gift of $13,000 for Lutheran Children’s Books for Southeast Asia will allow the Lutheran Heritage Foundation to print and distribute approximately 9,000 copies of Luther’s Small Catechism and 6,000 copies of A Child’s Garden of Bible Stories into the languages of Southeast Asia. This grant of $72,000 is now PAID IN FULL!

As reported, the national 2013-2015 LWML Mission Goal of $1.83 million has been met. The LWML now expects requests for several grants (two partial disbursements and two full grants) yet to be funded. LWML grants are paid out (when funds are available) to the recipients, once they have made a formal request stating they are ready for the funds. Mission Grants encompass a worldwide ministry and although the monies may be available it may take time for the recipient to prepare for those funds. Scholarships may need to be approved. Contracts may have been held until the funds were available and therefore actual construction dates need to be set. There are many other reasons why the funds may not be called upon immediately. Even international concerns can play a part in the distribution of Mission Grant funds.

MOST Ministries give eye examinations and distribute glasses to those in need.

While Mission Grants encompass a worldwide ministry the results affect His people on a very personal level. Carly Hatcher, Executive Director of Mission Opportunities Short Term (MOST) Ministries, recently sent a report to the LWML regarding a grant they were given during the 2013-2015 biennium. This grant, titled Student Scholarships for MOST Ministries Mission Trips, allows students to participate in mission trips. On recent trips:

  • 1252 people received eyeglasses;
  • 188 people were baptized through home visits and evangelism efforts with the mission team and local Tanzanian pastors;
  • 312 people were provided filters for sustainable clean water in their homes;
  • 243 women taught sewing skills;
  • many continue to experience the love of Christ and hear His message of salvation!

By God’s grace alone, mite offerings and the contributions of other LWML supporters, allow missionaries to reach the lost for Christ. Learn more about each grant at www.lwml.org.

The LWML thanks you and thanks our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! You may continue to donate online at www.lwml.org and checks or money orders may be designated as missions and mailed to Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, P.O. Box 411993, St. Louis, MO 63141-1993. All offerings received will be added to the new LWML Mission Goal that will be prayerfully selected by the delegates at the 36th LWML Biennial Convention in Des Moines, Iowa, June 25-28, 2015, for the mission work of the Lord during the 2015-2017 biennium.

A mission grants video (covering 33 grant proposals on the convention ballot) will be available for viewing before the convention. It will be posted on the LWML website. This video is in the final stages of production and it will be posted when it is completed. The LWML encourages all groups to consider planning a time when they could gather together, eat popcorn, watch this video, and pray and discuss these grant proposals. All grants highlighted are worthy missions and this may also serve as a resource for LWML districts and even local groups as they look for opportunities to share Christ through their mite offerings.
