What a Friend We Have in Jesus

In the Word

“… call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me" (Psalm 50:15).

Of the Word

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry Everything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit; Oh, what needless pain we bear —
All because we do not carry Everything to God in prayer!

In Jesus Christ we have a forever Friend.

He is our Redeemer from sin, death, and the power of the devil. He redeemed us through His suffering and death on the cross. Because of His death, we are forgiven. He has sent His Holy Spirit not only to bring us to faith but also to keep us in the true faith.

God promises to hear and answer our prayers for the sake of His Son Jesus. This hymn reassures us that we can take all of our cares and concerns to the Lord in prayer. The final line comforts us: “In His arms He'll take and shield thee; Thou wilt find a solace there.”

Walking with my Lord

O Savior, You once said, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). That is exactly what You did for me! What a Friend You are! Encourage me to come to You with every need, knowing that You will always grant what is truly best for me. In Your caring name I pray. Amen.
