About This Mission Grant

Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF) supports the mission of the church โ€” bringing Christ to the lost so that, through the Holy Spirit and the Word, they may believe in Christ their Savior. For over 30 years, LHF has been extending the ministry of Godโ€™s Word by translating and publishing Lutheran books that help explain the Bible. They have translated and published more than 1,500 titles in over 150 languages, which have been distributed at no cost to churches, pastors, individuals, and missionaries.

About a quarter of the worldโ€™s population โ€” over 1.9 billion โ€” identify as Muslim. They are living in spiritual darkness and starving for the love of Jesus Christ.ย

This grant will fund publication of over 20,000 Lutheran books, like the Small Catechism, A Childโ€™s Garden of Bible Stories, and devotions translated into the Arabic, Farsi, Bahasa Indonesian, and Kazakh languages that will be distributed in the United States and worldwide.

1.9 BILLION people...nearly a quarter of the Earth's population...that's how many Muslims there are in our world. They are men, women and children living in spiritual darkness and fear, starving for the love of Jesus Christ. Some have never heard of Him. For people in Muslim communities who HAVE heard and want to learn more about the Christian faith, they often face real danger and threats. For these former Muslims and searching Christians, life can be very lonely and isolated.

Even worse, in countries like Iran, Pakistan and Somalia, having faith in Christ often means physical attacks or even death for the believer and sometimes for their families. So while people may wonder about the teachings of Christianity behind closed doors, they cannot speak to known Christian leaders without putting themselves at risk. That's where LHF books come in. Books like the Small Catechism and Jesus Never Fails can be easily concealed and quietly read, sharing the Gospel discreetly.

But what about those who don't dare risk a hard copy of a book? In Somalia, many have come to learn of the saving Gospel online. LHF will follow this successful format, making as many titles as copyright permissions allow being available online-downloadable from the LHF website and other platforms like Issuu (and Spotify and Apple Tunes, where audiobook versions are available). That way, even those who live in highly persecuted areas are able to access the Good News.

Books from LHF, like Luther's Small Catechism, devotions and tracts, deliver God's Word to them, in their own language. The recipients find not only peace and hope in God's love for them, but also comfort in knowing that they are part of a worldwide Lutheran family. They are not alone.

With 3.45 million Muslims living in the USA, there is a great need for Lutheran books right in our own back yards. LHF translations provided through this mission grant will be freely distributed to LCMS Muslim-outreach programs like POBLO (locations in 10 states, from Ohio to California), Disciples of the Way (Texas), Messiah for Muslims (Illinois), as well as individual congregations trying to make inroads in sharing the Gospel with Muslim immigrants in their communities.

LHF's books, translated into a language these immigrants can read and understand, are vital for getting past the language barrier to introduce new believers to Jesus Christ. LHF provides our good Lutheran books in more than 150 languages for all levels: children, teens and adults; new believers; pastors and seminarians; Sunday school teachers and more. Best of all, the books are given free of charge to the churches, evangelists, ministries and individuals who need them.

At a cost of only about $5/book to translate and publish a Small Catechism, child's Bible book, devotion or other book about Jesus into languages like Arabic, Farsi, Bahasa Indonesia or Kazakh, an LWML mission grant of $100,000 would provide over 20,000 good Lutheran books to our Christian brothers and sisters around the world.
