LWQ Winter 2007

nullI thought the world was a kaleidoscope of blurry lights and Christmas was all about Santa. But two things happened in the early spring before I turned seven: I got my first pair of glasses (powder blue frames), and my parents decided to send me to Sunday school.

On that first Sunday, I couldn’t take my eyes off the pink-flowering tree outside the classroom’s double window…until the teacher handed me a lesson leaflet with a picture of Jesus putting mud on a man’s eyes.

“Uh-oh, this can’t be good,” I gasped, certain that Jesus was
going to get into trouble for playing around with mud, and puzzled why my classmates were staying so quiet about the obvious prank. Then the teacher told us how Jesus made that blind man see (John 9:6). Wide-eyed I blurted: “Jesus can do that??”

My eyeglass frames are purple now (go figure!), and come spring I will see a half dozen pink trees blossoming outside my front window. They both serve to remind me how
that little girl — just like the blind man — came to see the world…and Jesus…for the very first time.
