Winter 2025 — Live in Peace with One Another
Editor's Note
How's the world going for you today? What comes to mind? The neighbor’s barking dog? Repairmen that don’t show up on time? Children who tell you everything you did wrong in raising them? The unexpected diagnosis of a loved one? Disrespect from others who don’t agree with you? The news channel with all the announcements of an ugly world? All these can fill us — engulf us — with anger, sorrow, shame, annoyance, or the need to make things right or just or fair.
Recently, friends of mine were notified that their adult son had died in his sleep. Overwhelming sorrow flooded over me. Tears were close to the surface for days. Prayers for them to be wrapped in God’s arms and to “get through” ascended. Are you overwhelmed? Is someone you know suffering?
Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you (2 Corinthians 13:11).
The question is HOW? We are bombarded. The sea billows of sorrow come, the thunder of anger roars, the flood of negative newscasts never abate, and the mighty winds of hurt and violence — in words and deeds — blow constantly.
We know that with God all things are possible! Not just some — ALL! Aim for restoration — even if you know you’re in the right. Comfort one another — even when you yourself are in great pain. Let the peace of God attend you like a river nourishes a dry and thirsty land. We can imitate God: love like He loves; love the unlovable; love even when it hurts. Trust in Him and His ways to make things right and fair.
Finally, rejoice! As a song planted deep in my memory says, “Praise the Lord. He can work through those who praise Him.” When we praise God, the chains of sorrow, anger, bitterness, shame, or annoyance drop powerless behind us as we continue to focus on God and live in His peace — His amazing peace which passes all our understanding.

BLESSINGS IN DISGUISE
As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today (Genesis 50:20).
Share your tears of sorrow and/or tears of joy in your journey. When has God said, “No,” given you reason to practice humility, taught you the difference between happiness and joy, given you reason to rejoice ― even in physical pain or the pain of rejection?

HUMBLE SERVICE
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way (Psalm 25:9).
How have you been served by someone who didn’t expect anything in return? Do you know someone who quietly serves without needing
recognition (parish nurse, first responder, teacher … )? How do you grow in service? Balance service with the rest of your life?
