Happy Thanksgiving from LWML

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! (Psalm 100:4).

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, in a year filled with challenges, we loudly proclaim, “Thanks be to God for Jesus, our Savior and Lord!” God’s love, mercy, and grace are given to us through His Son.

On behalf of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), I give thanks to our Father for each of you. I thank God for your continued prayers, love, service, and support of our missions and ministry. Because of your generosity, we are able to share the Gospel message in our neighborhood and around the world.

The list of blessings outweighs the challenges — every time. Happy Thanksgiving!

Debbie Larson, LWML President

January Presidents Assembly Changed to Virtual Meeting

LWML President Debbie Larson made the shift from an in-person Presidents Assembly (a meeting of all 40 LWML District Presidents) to a virtual meeting because of the rise in COVID-19 cases nationwide. President Larson stated, “In this life, the only certainty is our Lord and His saving grace, through Jesus Christ. This decision was made with much prayer— to the glory of God, for the benefit of LWML’s image, and for the safety of our leadership. The LWML Board of Directors believes we can provide our district presidents with a worthwhile, effective, and personal experience during Zoom meetings that will be held on January 21–22, 2021. We continue to put our mission and vision at the forefront of all we do.”

The LWML Convention Programming Committee and Board of Directors will also meet virtually in January.

A Prayer for Thanksgiving From LWML to You

Heavenly Father,

You are the Maker of heaven and earth. You watch over and care for us each and every day. We give thanks to You for the many blessings that You bestow upon us in our lives. As we move into this Thanksgiving week, we are reminded of all that You do for us day after day. We thank You for watching over our lives and our families. These families are a blessing that comes from Your hand. Remind us that when we become frustrated or upset with each other, the one that we are upset with is also Your child, given to us for a special purpose in our lives. Help our hearts to turn from raw emotion to the love You place within our hearts through Your Son, Jesus Christ.

We give thanks to You for this nation and the communities in which we live. We pray that You will bring peace to our nation and guidance to our leaders. Help us to work together for the good of our communities and nation. Knowing that our leaders carry a lot of weight on their shoulders, we lift them up to You in prayer, asking You to grant them wisdom as they lead us day by day. Forgive each of us for our unwillingness to support those You have placed over us for our good. Help us to continue to lift them up in word and prayer.

We pray that You will continue to be with the LWML as it continues to support the proclamation of the Gospel here and throughout the world. We pray that You will guide President Debbie Larson, the LWML Board of Directors, and the LWML Presidents Assembly as they continue to lead this organization according to Your will. We give thanks that we have been given the opportunity to support mission grants so the Gospel may be proclaimed clearly in many places.

Fill us with a true thankfulness that comes from knowing Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Help us to share this thankfulness with others, even as we share the message of life and hope with them.

We pray all this in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
