A Day of Remembrance
A devotion for Memorial Day
In the Word
He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2).
Of the Word
As early as 1865, people set aside a day to remember the soldiers who gave their lives to protect our freedom. Eventually, the day became a national holiday known as Memorial Day. It is a solemn occasion. Sadly, as long as the earth exists, names will continue to be added to the list of those remembered.
As Christians, we have another day set aside to remember the sacrifice Jesus made to win the battle over sin, death, and the devil. It is Good Friday. His cry from the cross, “It is finished!” (John 19:30) is the assurance of eternal life for all believers. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself (Hebrews 9:26b). It is not a day to be somber, but a day to rejoice!
Walking with my Lord
Dear Jesus, thank You for making the ultimate sacrifice by dying on the cross to save me and all believers. Amen.
