Freedom in Christ

July 4 โ€” Independence Day โ€” a day to acknowledge the blessings we enjoy as we live in the โ€œland of the free and the home of the brave.โ€

I love parades: marching bands, floats, kids scrambling for candy; then the flag passes by and everyone stands, places their hands over their hearts, and honors the flag and the republic for which it stands.

At last monthโ€™s LWML convention in Lexington, Kentucky, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and we also honored another flag โ€” the Christian flag. We showed our respect for our faith by displaying that flag and reciting the pledge of allegiance to the cross of Christ.

What a blessing it is to live in a country where freedom abounds! Itโ€™s an even greater blessing knowing that we are part of Godโ€™s family where our freedom from sin and eternal separation from God was paid for on the cross by our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Read the devotion โ€œThe Flag of Freedomโ€ this week to help you focus on the freedom we have in Christ.
