Looking Forward to Lexington

null

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) invites all women and men to the 39th Biennial Convention Thursday, June 24–Sunday, June 27, 2021, Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center, Lexington, Kentucky.

Many LWML members have not had the opportunity to hug their LWML sisters this summer at LWML district conventions that have been canceled due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Now is the time to plan to come to Lexington next summer and reunite with all those friends. Mission speakers are always a highlight of LWML conventions. Bible studies, a mission walk, special interest lunches, and networking with missionaries from around the world draw participants from across the nation. Consider organizing group travel from your district, and don’t forget your Kentucky derby (hat). For more convention information click here.

LWML New England District Elects New President

This past weekend, the LWML New England District completed voting for officers and mission grant selections for the 2020-2022 biennium. The LWML thanks God for the service of New England District President Barbara Jean Lis who welcomed newly elected President Sharon Dever, from Fairfield, Connecticut. Under the convention theme of “Let There be Light,” voting members of the district chose to fund 12 mission grants, by the grace of God, with a mission goal of $71,000. Rev. Ed Harkey from Keene, New Hampshire, was elected as the district’s new junior pastoral counselor. Plans are being made to host a day of celebration at a later date.

Interruptions Modify Plans to Further His Kingdom

Deaconess Carol Halter, one of the recipients of LWML 2019-2021 Mission Grant #12 (Women’s Witness and Mercy Asia — Mission Central), had hoped to travel back home to the States in April to touch base with family, friends, and supporting congregations, but due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) restrictions, she remains in Hong Kong.

She is consoled by Romans 8:28, and shares that “we do see [God] doing great things in the midst of it all by giving lots of opportunities for witnessing.” LWML mite donations for “Women’s Witness and Mercy — Asia” supports Deaconess Carol and these mission opportunities. Read about them here

Mobile YWR Presentation Resource Available

2019 YWRs on stage at the Mobile convention

The Committee on Young Women recently designed a tool for the Mobile, Alabama, LWML Convention Young Woman Representatives (YWRs) to use as they share their YWR experience in their districts.

Two of the national committee members were YWRs in Mobile and had already prepared PowerPoint presentations to share in their respective districts. These were used as the basis for developing a customizable PowerPoint template. Each Mobile YWR may use this template and personalize it with her pictures and thoughts about her experience.

The committee realizes using this as intended for district conventions might not be feasible in 2020, but it can still provide the outline of a presentation that could be developed and shared on each LWML district website. The YWR Convention PowerPoint Template is a “Featured Resource” on the Young Women in Mission page of the LWML website and can be accessed here.
