LWML District Convention Prayers

Please join together in prayer for our LWML sisters in Christ from the Montana District as they join together for a Victory Celebration in Billings as well as those from the Mid-South District who will be joining together in a virtual convention this weekend.

Lord, we ask that You be with all members of these districts as they join together, whether in person or virtually and rally around God’s word during worship and Bible study, learn about mission opportunities and hear from the LWML Gifts of Love counselors. Thank you for the new mission grants already selected and we pray You will bless the new officers as they are installed this weekend.

Let us say a prayer of thanksgiving for Diane Reimold (Mid-South) and Shari Miller (Montana) as they come to the end of their four years of service as district presidents. We ask your blessing on Candy Habich, Blountville, Tennessee (Mid-South District) as she begins her term as district president.

Lord hear our prayers.

Serving Joyfully,
President Debbie

LWML Michigan District Holds Virtual Convention

LWML Michigan District President Susan Gruber called the 38th Biennial Convention (virtual) to order on July 11, 2020. Everyone was excited to celebrate the theme, “See & Rejoice!” based on John 20:20b: Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Participants heard from several Mites in Action speakers, including Rev. Dr. Robert Roegner, Apple of His Eye Ministry; Lynn Corker, Women of the Pearl Ministry; Rev. Christian Jones, Franklin Avenue Mission, along with several others. Thirteen Young Women Representatives (YWRs) were welcomed to the convention. A PowerPoint presentation was used to introduce them. The business of the district included the adoption of the 2020–2022 Mission Goal, the selection of 14 mission grants totaling $335,000, and the election of officers, including Marybeth Heikkinen of Frankenmuth, Michigan, as their new president, and Rev. Richard E. Robinson of Westland, Michigan, as their new pastoral counselor.

LWML English District Meets Electronically

The LWML English District, like many districts, decided to cancel their district convention scheduled for April 24–26, 2020, at the Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. District President Darlene Keca announced in a letter that the English District would hold their first electronic convention. Through the electronic voting process, a new mission goal of $53,400 was approved, which will fund seven new mission grants. Rev. Joshua Ulm of Ascension Lutheran Church, North Olmstead, Ohio, was elected as the new pastoral counselor. Even though they could not meet in person, the women and men of the LWML English District are still celebrating the theme, “Open My Lips!” based on the verse O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise (Psalm 51:15).

LWML New England District Officer Appointed Director of LCMS Life Ministry

Deaconess Tiffany Manor, LWML New England District Vice President of Special Focus Ministries, began serving in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Office of National Mission this spring as the new Director of LCMS Life Ministry. Her role supports the pro-life efforts of LWML members across the country. Tiffany says, “There are thousands of people across our Synod serving in LCMS Life Ministries. I want to get to know them and learn about their mercy work reaching out with Christ’s love to the people in their communities and the resources that are needed. If you are a pregnancy center staff member or volunteer, an advocate in the public square, or active in the sanctity of human life efforts in your church and community, let’s talk.” If you or your LWML group is involved in mercy work, send details of your ministry to Tiffany at LifeMinistry@lcms.org.

Lutheran Women in Mission — The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is an official auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.
