Cupcake Day for Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne (CTSFW)

The Valentine cupcakes provided by the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) arrived just in time last week. The next day a forecasted snowstorm closed the campus down. Dozens of students stopped by the CTSFW Food Co-op to pick up their cupcakes in advance of the storm. Each of the cupcakes was individually packaged with the scripture verse We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Deaconess Katherine Rittner, Food and Clothing Co-op Director, and coordinator of the event, said “I wanted to share with you the joy and appreciation for the cupcakes that were provided by the LWML last week for our students, families, faculty, and staff. There was much joy and delight — especially right before a snowstorm that closed the campus the next day due to 11 inches of snow! We haven't had that much snow in one day in many years.” The individually packaged sweet treats were given as a reminder of God’s love for us and our love for each other.

Devotional Resources for Spring

During this Lenten season, Lutheran Women in Mission may be looking for devotions and Bible studies for themselves or their group. The LWML Christian Resources Committee offers “Spring Resources” with a focus on Lent, but also includes resources for spring, Easter, and Mother’s Day. Titles of just a few of the Lenten selections are “Love's Atoning Sacrifice,” “Always the Cross,” and “Lift High the Cross.” These and many others are available on the LWML website under “The Word” tab; then click on Spring Resources.

Mission Grant #8 Lights for Christ Scholarship — Divine Savior Lutheran Church

As LWML women, we join with the Lights for Christ Director in Zacapa, Guatemala, in praise to God that all five of the students who started with this education program will be graduating! Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas, and partners with Lights for Christ, submitted the mission grant proposal to provide scholarships for the youth graduating from the program so they may continue their education in middle school. By God’s grace, LWML has paid scholarships for the five students graduating this year, enabling them to continue their education in middle school and giving them opportunities beyond the landfill where they currently live and learn.

Scholarship funds for at least six more children are being held by LWML and will be released in the coming year or two. This will then complete the mission grant and allow LWML to announce that it has been paid in full before the end of March. To lift up this ministry and education program in your prayers — or to promote it in your group or congregation — use the resources found here.

Lutheran Women in Mission — The Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) is an official auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Since 1942, the LWML has focused on affirming each woman's relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries, and to support global missions.

The LWML is the leading group for LCMS women where each woman is welcomed and encouraged to use her unique God-given gifts as she supports global missions and serves the Lord with gladness.
