Running the Race … to Lexington!

LWML Will Meet in Convention, June 24–27, 2021

undefined

In the last week, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Board of Directors (BOD) met multiple times, seeking God’s will for the planning of this year’s LWML convention. After much prayer, the decision was made to continue with plans for an in-person convention in Lexington, Kentucky, June 24–27, 2021.

All state and local guidelines for large gatherings will be set in place to make this convention safe for our participants who choose to come. Masks will be required at all times with certain exceptions: speaking at the podium, eating, drinking, and being in individual hotel rooms. Temperatures will be checked upon entering the Rupp Arena. Social distancing will be followed, using the distances required at the time of convention in all public areas. Hand-sanitizing stations will be available throughout the arena. The arena, that includes the convention floor (tables, chairs, etc.) will be sanitized between sessions and as necessary. Plans are being formulated for safe distancing while participants visit the exhibit hall and LWML store. Kentucky continues to lessen all restrictions as COVID-19 cases decline.

As participants make plans to attend, visiting the Convention Central link on the LWML website is a must. Tours both before and after the convention will allow you to enjoy the beautiful Kentucky countryside and visit historical and educational sites. You can still sign up for the Tee Up 4 Mites Golf Tournament. The servant activities, blood drive, and the mission pledge walk will all take place with protocols. Highlights of the convention are the opening worship service with communion, the sending worship service on Sunday, Bible studies, luncheons, the LWML Purple Rose Store, and the entertainment Saturday evening. This year’s participants will be treated to Billie Reneé & Cumberland Gap, a Bluegrass band. These events will look a little different with safety protocols in place, and we have all grown used to doing what is necessary to keep everyone safe!

Due to restrictions, district photos or participation in the convention choir will not be offered in 2021.

Information and updates will be posted on the LWML website and published through eNews. As conditions continue to improve, we expect changes in restrictions and will keep you updated.

The LWML BOD understands and respects that not everyone will feel comfortable traveling in June. Those who are not planning to attend in person may choose to participate by organizing a mission pledge walk with their congregation, sending in their convention offerings, and watching all live-streamed convention sessions. Stay tuned! We will publicize all the opportunities you may have to still be an important part of “Running the Race … Looking to Jesus!”

Mite Offerings Clarification

Correction, the LWML has been blessed to carry forward $37,742.34 to help pay for the next biennium’s mission grants. The $125,242.34 reported in last week’s eNews was in reference to the over/under accumulation from month to month. Sorry for the confusion.
