Melissa Salomón – The Tenacious Missionary

The Tenacious Missionary book cover

Melissa Salomón, an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) since the 1980s, is the subject of the latest Mission Nation Publishing book, The Tenacious Missionary. The book spans Melissa’s life from her years as a young Hispanic woman, living with her grandparents in New Mexico, to her work within the LCMS and the LWML, particularly with the LWML Heart to Heart Sisters, a group that Melissa helped create. Melissa’s work serving her Lord in border ministry and as part of the team that opened the first Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) office in Tijuana, Mexico are also highlighted.

This inspirational book is the seventh book in the Missionaries to America series published by Mission Nation, a recipient of an LWML 2021–2023 Mission Grant. The non-profit organization hopes to help Lutheran churches "reach ethnic groups other than our own" through their books, blogs, newsletters, and podcasts.  Click on this link if you would like to learn more or order a copy of The Tenacious Missionary.

November Eucharisteo Project

Thanksgiving notecard with cornucopia basket and "Oh give thanks to the Lord … Psalm 105:1"

During November we celebrate Thanksgiving and give praise to God for His many blessings. The Eucharisteo Project is one way to personalize your celebration. Eucharisteo is a Greek word meaning saying grace or giving thanks. The Eucharisteo Project resource can be found here on the LWML website. There are 26 Scripture references of thanks. Each day select all or part of the verse to write on the back of the Thanksgiving notecards. These notecards are just one of the themes of the coloring Scripture cards and bookmarks. Color the card and send it to a friend or relative. Or decorate your Thanksgiving table with brightly colored cards.

O give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! (Psalm 107:1).

Mission Grant Resources for November

Sunday school in Kenya: group of children and their teacher sitting outside holding Bible storybooks.

LWML Mission Grant No. 3, from this 2021–2023 biennium, will provide the Lutheran Heritage Foundation with the resources to translate, publish, and distribute Lutheran books to children throughout Africa. Thirst to Learn: Bible Books for Africa’s Children will help bring the Gospel to children and their families all over Africa. At a production cost of just $3.00 each, a beautiful, full-color Bible storybook will be given to over 30,000 children.

For many years teachers were responsible for teaching the Bible to classes of eager students without books. With the help of this mission grant, Sunday school teachers will have Bible storybooks and Small Catechisms, translated into languages the students speak and read. Many more children will know about the love, salvation, and grace of Jesus Christ.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) — Lutheran Women in Mission — is an official auxiliary of  The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Since 1942, Lutheran Women in Mission have joyfully proclaimed Christ, supported missions, and equipped women to honor God by serving others
