No Slip Ups
In the Word
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
Of the Word
Whose famous slippers were originally supposed to be furry?
When the story of Cinderella was translated, the very similar old French words for “glass” and “fur,” verre and vair, were mistaken for each other. With one swoop of the pen the furry slippers became the glass slippers. So what difference does it make? Actually, glass slippers sound more elegant than furry slippers. No one was harmed by this slight change in the fairy tale.
Some things, however, cannot be changed. Take Jesus, for example. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection may sound like a fairy tale, but every part is true and trustworthy. Jesus even called Himself “truth” when He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6a).
No one will ever put glass or furry slippers on our feet and whisk us away to a ball for an evening. But Jesus is the King of Kings. We will have a ball for all eternity when we “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved …” (Acts 16:31b).
Walking with my Lord
Dear Jesus, thank You for being the Truth and for telling the truth in Your Word. Help me trust in You forever. In Your name I pray. Amen.
