Patience!

In the Word

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2).

Of the Word

At times, I feel overwhelmed with the responsibilities of caring for my aging parent. My formerly strong and independent mother now depends on me. Our roles have been reversed. In my frustration I say to myself, “Patient! Be more patient!” God reminds me … clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12b).

I wonder. Does God lose patience with me? I find comfort in His Word, Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail (Lamentations 3:22). He promises to be “… slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness …” (Exodus 34:6b).

How grateful I am that God is patient with me! His steadfast love enables me to persevere. He loves me even when I’m feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. What love! What compassion! What patience!

Walking with my Lord

Lord, when I become impatient, remind me of Your great patience and love for me. Help me to be slow to anger so that I may show Your love to those who look to me for care. Grant me a patient attitude. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
