When Peace, Like a River

In the Word

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ … (Romans 5:1).

Of the Word

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way;
When sorrows, like sea billows, roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well with my soul.
It is well with my soul. It is well, it is well with my soul.

At times life can be calm and peaceful, but at other times trials and tribulations may come our way. No matter what happens, Christ gives us the ability to say, “It is well with my soul.”

Satan wants to disrupt our peace, ruin our calm. God the Father sent His Son Jesus to be our Savior from all sin, death, and the power of the devil. Jesus gave His life so that our sins are forgiven. By His resurrection He conquered death and defeated Satan. “He lives — oh, the bliss of this glorious thought; My sin, not in part, but the whole, Is nailed to His cross, and I bear it no more. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!”

The Lord will return at the trumpet’s sound, and the resounding refrain will continue for us: “It is well with my soul.”

Walking with my Lord

I praise You, my Savior. All that You have done for me makes me shout joyfully, “It is well, it is well with my soul.” In Your name I pray. Amen.
