Devotion on Relationship with God, 1 Samuel 3:4–5. 2 pages.

Then the LORD called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!” and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down (1 Samuel 3:4–5).

Samuel was called by the Lord when he was only a lad, but he did not recognize who was calling him. He had not built a personal relationship with God and did not recognize His voice when the Lord called.

Did God ever call you? What did it sound like? The women in my weekly Bible study hypothesized if Jesus would ever call us on a cell phone, we might not answer. Often, the only numbers we answer are those from people we know.

Fear or…?

Devotion on Relationship with Others, Witness, 2 Timothy 1:6–7. 1 page.

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:6–7).

No matter with whom we are communicating — a boss, co-worker, family member, friend, or neighbor — or about what we are communicating — the day’s tasks, relaying important information, checking on someone's health, or sharing the Gospel message, we need not be afraid …

I Know You

Devotion on Grief, Relationship with God, 1 Corinthians 8:3, Psalm 139. 2 pages.

But if anyone loves God, he is known by God (1 Corinthians 8:3).

Many people cross our paths … Some stay a short time and others stay throughout our entire life.

They were one of the first I went to in all instances for so many years and now they were gone. And then, in the stillness of my grief, I heard a whisper in my heart, “I know you.” I was reminded that there is Someone who knows me even better than my mom and dad ever did.

Devotion on God's love, Relationship with God, John 3:16–17. 1 page.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him" (John 3:16–17).
