Devotion on Comfort and Hope, Psalm 61:4. 3 pages.

Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! (Psalm 61:4).

When you think of being wrapped in comfort, what do you think of? … In the Psalms, God shows us where we can find comfort in Him and in His Word. The richness of Psalms provides word pictures where each of us can easily understand God’s message of love, comfort, and care.

Celebrate!

Devotion on death, Christian funerals, comfort and hope. 2 pages.

“It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found” (Luke 15:32).

The Christian funeral service is actually a celebration of the grace of God in the life of the believer. … Even though we mourn at the loss of our believing friend, we can praise God that he or she is indeed rejoicing in heaven.

The Psalms — Finding God’s Words of Comfort

Devotion on the Psalms. 2 pages.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night (Psalm 1:1–2).

Have you ever paged through the book of Psalms looking for just the right words? For instance, in times of distress, searching for the words that speak to your hurting heart? Or for words of praise when life is going so well it is hard to believe that you are in the same world as the one you struggled with just last week? … Let us wander through the pages of Psalms together.

A Jigsaw Puzzle

Devotion on the gifts, talents, service, 1 Peter 4:10. 2 pages.

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace (1 Peter 4:10).

In a jigsaw puzzle, each unique piece has been designed by the puzzle maker to fit best into one particular spot!
I like to think that is how God designed us, too: He blesses each of us with particular gifts and talents that will fit into His plan, enabling us to be His servants here on earth for His good purposes.

Freedom From Fear

Devotion on Freedom in Christ, Psalm 46:2–3. 1 page.

“I am so afraid, Lord! Please give me Your peace!” I said those words often, though I knew the Lord was right there with me, no matter the circumstance. Why did I find it so hard to let go of the fear?

Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling (Psalm 46:2–3).

Immanuel — God With Us

Devotion on Seasons of Life, Matthew 1:23. 2 pages.

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel” (which means, God with us) (Matthew 1:23).

“God with us” seems like such a simple concept to us Christians. Of course, God is with us. We learned that well in catechism classes, did we not? … As we look at what Immanuel means for each of us, let us consider the more personal magnitude of God with me. How does this happen in one’s personal life?

Devotion on Relationship with God, 1 Samuel 3:4–5. 2 pages.

Then the LORD called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!” and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down (1 Samuel 3:4–5).

Samuel was called by the Lord when he was only a lad, but he did not recognize who was calling him. He had not built a personal relationship with God and did not recognize His voice when the Lord called.

Did God ever call you? What did it sound like? The women in my weekly Bible study hypothesized if Jesus would ever call us on a cell phone, we might not answer. Often, the only numbers we answer are those from people we know.
