LWQ Summer 2007

It's A Big World

nullThe young mom kissed her five-year-old daughter and husband goodbye at the airport. It was the first time she flew alone — the first time this dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker had been west of Buffalo!

And then it happened…Surprise! Culture shock!

The exotic locale? Ames, Iowa, in 1985. The very first LWML convention I attended was inadvertently my first cross-cultural trip, too — replete with new terrain diverse accents, and a distinct LWML culture with its own way of doing things.

I got hooked on the LWML that year. I got hooked on mission trips, too. I marvel how the experiences in Ames prepared me for the mission work I now do in Latin America. See you in Sioux Falls. Let’s be surprised together!
