LWML’s September to Remember 2021

“Giving Tuesday” is a day of giving, typically celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. This year the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) is celebrating its day of giving, “September to Remember,” on September 14, 2021.

The LWML will focus on the “Shining Lights” in our lives who share Jesus’ truth in love through service to others. Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

Watch for daily posts during the first two weeks of September as the LWML Board of Directors share stories of those who have been “Shining Lights” in their lives. You are invited to share a story about one of your “Shining Lights” on Facebook, donate to the LWML Mission Goal in honor of that special someone, and pray for all district and national mission grants.

On September 14, 2021, you may donate through the LWML website, under the “Giving” tab, in honor of those “Shining Lights” in your life, making an eternal difference in the lives of others.

You may also mail your donation labeled for “September to Remember” or “GivingTuesday” to:

LWML Shares Christian Life Resources with Concordia Seminary St. Louis Students

LWML will share resources and information with the Concordia Seminary St. Louis students at the New Student Orientation Information Fair 2021, to be held on August 24. In addition to distributing information, LWML will hand out a treat — we call “Sending You S’more Love from LWML.” This packet contains everything the students will need to make delicious s’mores except the fire! If you know students who will be attending, encourage them to stop by the LWML booth.

New Christian Life Resources

Do you ever wish you were living in Jesus’ time and wonder what it would have been like to sit down at a meal with Jesus? The newly revised LWML Bible study “At Table with Jesus” invites us to journey into the Scriptures and take a seat at the table with Jesus. Table fellowship was an integral part of Jesus’ ministry. He taught about the kingdom of God and shared a meal in the atmosphere of acceptance, forgiveness, and peace. This Bible study looks at how God used meal times in Israel’s history to communicate His grace to His people as well as to us today.

Written by former LWML Pastoral Counselor Rev. Kristopher Whitby, this is a seven-part study which includes a leader’s guide. It would be great as a devotion series for a family with older children or a lunchtime Bible study group in your church or workplace. Download this study here today.

Group Resources for COVID

“New normal” is a phrase we keep hearing. Since March 2020, we have learned to be creative in how we shop, work, worship, and go to school. We have created “new normals” for these activities. Do you have “new normals” for your LWML group gatherings?

Now is the time to be inventive as we connect with our LWML sisters in the Word and by how we serve others and collect our mite offerings. LWML has a list of tips and ideas to help you and your group stay connected and serve the Lord with gladness. Consider trying new ways to connect with those church members who are homebound, who work outside the home and can’t make regular meetings, or are busy moms with crazy schedules. Check out the Group Resources page. Be sure to share ways your group connected during COVID and how your activities might look this fall. Email your tips, ideas, and pictures to the Vice President of Organizational Resources here.

Sharing the Love of Christ (and Breakfast) with Bikers in Sturgis

Have you ever wanted to be a part of the biggest motorcycle rally in the country? For several years, Blessed Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Sturgis, South Dakota, has been serving breakfast to bikers attending the Sturgis Bike Rally. They have it down to a science. Many of the bikers come back every day of the rally for a home-cooked breakfast. Workers come from sister churches around the Black Hills and even from across the state to help prepare and serve the meal. A few even use vacation time and have been working the breakfast shift for years.

One such worker is Jo Young, cousin of LWML President Debbie Larson, shown with Arlene Naasz, LWML Meeting Manager, working at this year’s rally. The bikers are very appreciative and seem to enjoy the opportunity to sit, relax, have good food, and share stories. A few ask for prayers. Always be prepared to share the love of Christ!

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) — Lutheran Women in Mission — is an official auxiliary of  The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Since 1942, Lutheran Women in Mission have joyfully proclaimed Christ, supported missions, and equipped women to honor God by serving others
