LWML Minnesota South District Holds Get-Together

On October 10th, the LWML Minnesota South District held “The Great Minnesota South Mission-Get-Together” at Mayer Lutheran High School, Mayer, Minnesota, led by LWML District President Deb Vinkemeier. Gathered together were 174 women and men wearing masks and following safe distance protocol. The event was also available virtually enabling viewing from home and at church fellowship halls. This was a follow-up to their canceled June convention under the theme “Tell Everyone What He Has Done.” New officers were installed at the worship service by Rev. Dr. William Utech, Vice President of Missions, LCMS Minnesota South District who also delivered the message.

There was a Silent Basket Auction of 31 baskets in support of the new mission goal of $265,000. Three mission grant recipients spoke, and the women were entertained by Jan Struck, humorous interrupter, and keynote speaker.

National Committee Activities You Should Know About

The LWML Structure Committee emailed a tip to district structure chairmen and district presidents to help zones and groups think about how to hold elections during times when zone events may not be held in person. For more information, click here.

The Leadership Development Committee has been producing monthly advice columns, called Dear Lucy Leader. Check them out here. They also have several recorded chats available with current leaders in the LWML. The most recent one is with Leadership Development Committee member Sherrie Smith. You can view it here.

The Mission Grants committee has updated both the Mission Grants History and the Mission Grant Resume 1943-2021. The Mission Grants History, a listing of all LWML grants from the 1943–1945 biennium through the 2019–2021 biennium, is already up on the mission grant webpage and the Mission Grant Resume 1943-2021, which is a concise and complete listing of LWML mission grants by country, will be available in January. Coffee on St. Louis Campus

On October 13th, 2020, the LWML office staff hosted a coffee in the park event for the wives of students at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. This was targeted specifically for the moms on campus. A group of mothers sat on the lawn, drinking coffee while their children played in the park. The women chatted at a safe distance, sipped coffee, and ran after their energetic children. It was the perfect fall morning with a slight chill in the air and the coffee warmed everyone. They enjoyed a devotion from Deaconess Mary Moerbe’s “Dear Mother,” and closed their morning with a prayer. The staff was thrilled to share the Gospel with the women on campus, get to know them better and tell them about LWML.
