Were You There

In the Word

“… you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead …” Acts 2:23b–24a

Of the Word

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh … Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

This spiritual takes us back to the day that Jesus was crucified for our sins. We call that day Good Friday.

The song ends with one more question. “Were you there when God raised Him from the tomb?” Jesus conquered death and rose again to eternal life. Because He lives, we will live with Him in heaven.

Many people suffered through the tragedy of slavery in America. They drew a parallel between their suffering and the suffering of Jesus. By faith they rejoiced in His resurrection. They looked forward to eternal life with Him. Oh, yes, sometimes it causes us to tremble when we realize that the Lord has done all this for us! What a Good Friday it was!

Walking with my Lord

Lord, I rejoice in Your sacrifice for me and in Your resurrection! In Your name I pray. Amen.
