LWML Northern Illinois District Convention

The LWML Northern Illinois District held their virtual convention with the theme “Led by the Spirit” on September 12, 2020. President Janice Gerzevske presided over the pre-recorded convention which included much singing, enhanced by a virtual choir, and a Bible study led by pastoral counselors Rev. Doug Swanson and Rev. Jeffrey Howell. Participants also heard reports by District President Janice Gerzevske, LWML President Debbie Larson and LCMS Northern Illinois District President Rev. Allan Buss.

Deaconess Christel Neuendorf, serving in Puerto Rico, and Deaconess Katherine Rittner, from the Concordia Theological Seminary Fort Wayne Food & Clothing Co-op, shared personal testimonies from their respective “mission fields”. Other video presentations included the mission grants selected for this biennium and a tribute to past District President Jan Mauer (2010-2014) who received her crown of life in May 2020.

Voting was conducted electronically August 29-30, 2020, for elections of officers, bylaws changes, and district mission grants in the amount of $93,750 for the 2020-2022 biennium.

For Times Such as This

Do you know someone who resides in an assisted living facility or who works in one? Maybe you know someone living alone experiencing the same isolation so many are feeling during the COVID-19 pandemic. The LWML Christian Life Department has created a list of LWML resources that are especially recommended for those dealing with visual or hearing impairments or small motor coordination challenges.

Along with Bible studies and devotions especially relevant to the loneliness of the pandemic, there are craft activities, podcasts, YouTube videos with sign language and captioning, and even braille and large-print resources on this list. The list of suggested LWML Resources for Assisted Living Centers titled For Such a Time as This is available by clicking here.

Prayer Request for LWML District Conventions

Please pray for our LWML sisters in Christ from the Nebraska South and the Carolinas Districts as they meet virtually this weekend for their LWML district conventions.

We pray for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide them as they choose new officers, a mission goal, and mission grants. We are blessed to live in a time in which, through technology, we can continue our work and service in an effective manner. Grant all women to be blessed by the many opportunities awaiting them in the LWML and may each of the mission grants’ needs be met according to Your perfect timing.

Please join me in thanking God for Katy Gifford as she completes her four years of service as District President in the LWML Nebraska South District and also remember in prayer Cheryl Wulfert who will continue serving as the LWML Carolinas District President for another two years.

Serving Joyfully,
President Debbie
