Take a Closer Look

While Moses was tending his father-in-law’s sheep in Midian, he saw a bush that looked like it was on fire. He decided to take a second look at the bush because it didn’t seem to be burning up. When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” (Exodus 3:4 NLT).

Isn’t it interesting that God didn’t speak to Moses until he came to take a closer look? God had something to say to Moses, but He waited to say it until He had Moses’ full attention.

I’ve noticed when I’m busy, I often need to take a second look to really notice and pay attention to details. (Am I the only one who has ever driven away from home, only to turn the car around to go back to double check if the garage door closed?)

How about taking a closer look at our 2015–2017 Mission Grants?

There are still several left to fund before our biennium ends on March 31, 2017. It isn’t too late to help reach out to those training to share the message of salvation at the seminary in Nigeria through LWML Mission Grant #4! Offerings must reach the LWML office by March 31, 2017. Please give through your district treasurer or by clicking here to donate directly.

Training Pastors to Share the Message of Salvation

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

nullOur seminary brothers in Nigeria study the same Gospel as our brothers do in St. Louis and Fort Wayne, but in very different settings. The Jonathan Ekong Memorial (JEM) Seminary in Nigeria is in serious need of restoration. The buildings’ conditions are dangerous to useless.

As our partners in gospel proclamation in Africa, and by your vote for grant #4 at the 2015 LWML Convention in Des Moines, we are privileged to assist in their restoration with a $120,000 grant.

We praise God for those called to be Church Workers, and as we pray for, support, and encourage our Church Workers in Mission and seminary students locally, let us also be mindful to do so for those in Nigeria.

Your mite offerings will insure the restoration of this precious seminary and the continuation of the proclamation of the Gospel to our Nigerian brothers and sisters.

With our biennium ending on March 31, it is very important to send your mite offerings in each week, making sure the last one is postmarked no later than March 31, 2017.

Philippians 4:13 says, I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

I know we can meet the goal we set. This is just a reminder not to wait.

I love you all.

Signs of Hope

Spring is in the air. I’m looking forward to the clean scent of freshly dug earth and spring rains feeding new gardens. Spring can be a sign of hope for new beginnings to many of us but many around the globe see only despair in their future. By God’s grace, district and national LWML Mission Grants can change that despair into hope for grant recipients.

One mission grant, Bringing Hope and Healing to the Navajo People, once fully funded, will implement Gospel-oriented programs for Navajo men, women and youth to empower and equip them to live victorious amid their circumstances, offering better choices for a brighter future. As the LWML biennium ends March 31, 2017, we pray that all individuals and LWML districts will recognize the need and our mission goal will be met.

This, and all other mission grants spread Jesus’ love throughout the world and you can be a part of this wonderful mission opportunity through your offerings and prayers. What a blessing to share His hope with others!

In His service, filled with His joy,

The Smallest Act of Kindness

Oscar Wilde said, “The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.”

nullHope and Healing to the Navajo People is one of the LWML Mission Grants still in need of funding.

Your LWML Mite Box is living proof of this. The small act of donating to LWML mites impacts people’s lives by not only supplying something helpful, useful, or needful, but with the saving grace of the Gospel. That is certainly worth more than the grandest of intentions!

Will you join me today in the small act of donating, the small act of taking your donations to church, and the small act of asking that your group send in all the mites monthly? Our national mission grant deadline is March 31st. There are still grants that are waiting to be funded.

Let’s celebrate the impact our small acts of mites can have for God’s kingdom work! Click here.

Let’s respond to our Savior’s love toward us! The Time is NOW to ACT!

Help Young Adults Serve …

Help Young Adults Serve Through LCMS Young Adult Corps

nullAs with many generations, young adults today are not always sure of their future vocation. The LWML grant LCMS Young Adult Corps provides scholarship funds to serve in areas in which their talents and services are needed (poverty/inner city areas, and areas of disadvantage and/or long-term recovery). Sometimes these young men and women need to experience the joys of helping people in places where they have never visited. You can read more about this grant here.

This grant has yet to be funded and our fiscal year ends in just about six weeks on March 31. We are in the last stretch of our biennium with much of the hill to climb. Let’s continue in prayer and encourage our young adults through the LCMS Young Adult Corps. Paul speaks of mutual encouragement in Romans 1:12, that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. Let’s pray for the people involved with this ministry and that God will continue to bless our mite offerings.

You can donate now at www.lwml.org/donate-online by credit or debit card.

Bringing the Gospel to the Lost Sheep of Israel

Bringing the Gospel to the Lost Sheep of Israel

nullAs we enter the final two months to receive offerings towards our Mission Goal, we find several grants that remain unfunded. We pray that the Lord of the harvest would move mission-minded servants to come forward with contributions by March 31, 2017 so that all grants chosen by district delegates at the 2015 Des Moines Convention will be completely funded.

There is one particular one on my mind. “Bringing the Gospel to the Lost Sheep of Israel – Apple of His Eye (AOHE) Mission Society.” AOHE is a Recognized Service Organization (RSO) of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). This is their mission statement: The Apple of His Eye Mission Society exists to boldly declare Y’shua as the Messiah and urgently equip God’s people to do the same. We are passionate about telling Jewish people and gentiles that Jesus is the promised Messiah. May the Lord, by His Spirit, move them into a life of faith.

nullThis grant is an exciting opportunity. It will provide funds to establish the first mission outreach and church planting ministry for the LCMS in Israel. The strategy includes the training of Messianic Jews living in Israel to become leaders and pastors along with the establishment of Lutheran churches. The first ministry for the LCMS in Israel! LWML has led the way in financing mission “firsts” throughout its 75 year history. Here is another opportunity to bring the word that Christ is the promised Messiah of Israel. The apostle Paul writes to his listeners in Romans 10:1 NIV, Brothers and sisters, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.

Pray for this ministry. Read about it at www.lwml.org/mission-grant-14. Send your offering for it before March 31, 2017 to your district treasurer or financial secretary so that it can be sent by March 31 for this grant and the others that remain to be funded completely.

Serving with you!
Patti

2017 A New Year: Time to Take Stock

2017 A New Year: Time to Take Stock

Now that we’ve survived the first month of 2017, I like many of you, are likely taking stock of what seemed like some really good personal new year’s resolutions. Perhaps you’ve already given up on one or two of them. Don’t do that, especially if spending time with God in daily devotions and growing in His Word is one of those resolutions.

It’s not too late to take stock of what’s available at your fingertips on the LWML website, and on the store shelf, to energize and inspire you for your spiritual growth. There are many excellent Bible studies, devotions, tracts, and periodicals for your society and zone as well. Check out the website:  www.lwml.org

It’s a new year and certainly a good time for you to take stock and engage with God on a more personal level. Spend time with Him. You are precious to God.
