Devotion on Christmas, Joy in the Journey, Luke 2:9-11. 1 page.
And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:9–11).
Shopping, holiday parties, decorating, writing Christmas cards, rushing from place to place, fighting the crowds — where is the joy? The Christmas season is when the stress level is usually the highest, time is never enough, and emotions run high. … What is your greatest joy?

Devotion on Discipleship, Mites, Missions, Christian Living, Luke 21:1–4. 2 pages.
Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” (Luke 21:1–4).
Plans. We all make them. And we may spend a lot of time planning — what clothing to wear, what we will have for dinner, what we will do on vacation. When the widow got up in the morning what do you think was her plan?

Devotion on Joy in the Journey, Advent, Christmas, Ephesians 2:8. 1 page.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).
At this time of the year, our minds can focus on the brightly colored packages with shiny bows tucked neatly underneath the Christmas tree. We wonder, “What is in those packages that we see?” There is one gift that fits all sizes, all ages, all nationalities, all races. It is a gift we can all share. Once you have discovered this gift, you will not want to return it. That is why it is the perfect gift for everyone.

Devotion on Family Times, God's Family, Christian Life, 1 John 3:1a. 1 page.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are (1 John 3:1a).
“I love you.” Those three little words have the power to change a life. A parent speaks them to a child and nurtures their soul. A man and woman speak them to each other as they take the vow of marriage and begin a new life as one. Most importantly, God speaks them to us in His Word and makes us His child and heir to His kingdom through Holy Baptism.

Devotion on Dealing with Down Days, Comfort, God’s Love, Psalm 40:1-5. 2 pages.
David wrote Psalm 40 as a response to a time when he felt God had pulled him out of a horrible pit. We don’t know exactly what David had experienced that was so bad, but we see how much he felt the hand of God in his life. David responded with a new song of praise to God that God himself had placed in David. He also believed that others would see his delivery and cause them to praise God.

Devotion on Relationship with God, Trust, First Article, Psalm 91:2. 1 page.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:2).
In our contemporary world we hear a lot about “safety nets.” Unemployment benefits, Medicaid, food stamps … These safety nets provide for earthly needs. God promises to be our safety net for both earthly and eternal needs. In fact, God isn’t just there as a safety net; he’s always present to give us what we need.
Props: large fishing net, or other net; clothes pins to attach signs with the words: body, soul, food, clothing, shelter, family, protection from evil, and empty tomb.
For 2 readers.

Devotion on Relationship with God, Prayer, Colossians 1:9-12. 2 pages.
As St. Paul said to the Colossians 1:9-12, And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
We share in that inheritance because of Jesus’ death and resurrection. In thankfulness to this gift of salvation, we commit ourselves to following His will. However, sometimes it is difficult to know what God intends for us to do.
