It Would Have Been Enough

Devotion on Relationship with Others, Relationship with God, Jeremiah 29:11. 2 pages.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

These same words God speaks to us regardless of our life situation. His promise and His Presence will always be enough! While it is true that in life one can be a lonely number, in Christ, it doesn’t have to be. In Christ, we are made whole and complete. In Christ, we are never a lonely number, but are instead a beloved sister or brother, held close and given a future and a hope in Him!

Is Your Thirst for God Still Quenched?

Devotion on Relationship with God, Christian Living, Renewal, Psalm 42:1-2, Psalm 63:1. 1 page.

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Psalm 42:1-2).

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water (Psalm 63:1).

These words shine a spotlight directly on the need we all have to have our thirst quenched by God. The general activities of our life can make us dry. The stress and anxiety we face can make us dry. Add every weight and sin which clings so closely (Hebrews 12:1) to the mix and our soul can seem pretty parched.

Is It Justified?

Devotion on Justification, Christian Living, Genesis 3:12-13. 3 pages.

We try to absolve ourselves of guilt, justify our actions, share the blame, and cast off personal responsibility. Using the bad behavior of others to excuse our own only deceives ourselves (1 John 1:8). Sin is still sin, even when someone else sins against us first.

Our actions are never justified by what has been done to us. We are only justified by the blood of Christ. He suffered the consequences for all our sins though He was without any of His own.

In His Steps

Devotion on Christian Living, Comfort and Hope, Proverbs 16:9. 1 page.

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps (Proverbs 16:9).

Many times we become stressed, frustrated, and unhappy that what we thought was going to happen or what we were going to get done is foiled. We complain, groan, and get grumpy! But as we look at Scripture, we find that we can rely on the Lord, knowing that He has a plan and a purpose for us.

I Have Loved You with an Everlasting Love

Devotion on Love, Comfort and Hope, Jeremiah 31:3. 2 pages.

… the LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you (Jer. 31:3).

God said, “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” That makes all the difference in the world, knowing that God’s undeserved love was given to His people at Jeremiah’s time and is given to us day by day by day … into eternity.
