Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Our God is a God of salvation (Psalm 68:19-20a).
Just as our Lord has kept His promise to hear us and care for us, we can lay the foundation of trust for our children.

And he [Jesus] said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2).
In the fall, we think of harvesting grains, vegetables, and fruits. A successful harvest is a bountiful one. Scripture tells us of another very important harvest. That is the harvesting of souls for the Kingdom of God.

It was really, really dark. The thunderstorm not only knocked out our power, but even the street lights were dark. Confident that our flashlights would work because of their new batteries, we were able to see and not stumble. More light shone on our kitchen table from a portable, battery-powered lantern; recently-charged cell phones were available in case of an emergency; we could even listen to weather alerts and music from our battery-operated radio. No need to panic. We were confident because we were prepared.
This brings to mind several thoughts on how we, as children of God, become confident as we receive power from Him to use our gifts in His service.

It takes a village to raise a child – or so the saying goes. First and foremost, it takes a family that follows the teachings of God to raise that child in the faith. In today’s world where the Supreme Court has legalized “marriage” between same sex couples and terrorists are attacking Christians, knowing and following the Word of God becomes, and remains, an important function when the family is gathered. The Bible always provides us with answers.

Have you ever asked yourself the question, "How far off of the green hill and out of His safe pasture has the Lord looked for me?" Honestly, my answer makes me squirm a bit — there have been times when I know He's had to leave the "ninety-nine" to go looking yet again!
