Simon Says (Acts 10:43)

A 2-page devotion about relationship with others and witnessing.

To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name (Acts 10:43).

If you had a typical childhood, you probably were bossed around by a Simon character. He/she told you to stand up, sit down, or put your hand on your head for no good reason except to get a laugh if you did it all wrong. Who is this Simon person anyway?

What an Opportunity!

Devotion on Lent, Joy in the Journey, Psalm 100:2a. 2 pages.

Serve the LORD with gladness! (Psalm 100:2a)

Have you had a unique opportunity in your life? Whatever opportunities you have enjoyed, today there is an opportunity for each of us. That opportunity or “possibility of doing something” is Lent! Lent is an opportunity. Lent is a favorable juncture of time where we are given the gift of 40 days to prepare for Easter. This opportunity begins on Ash Wednesday. For 40 weekdays, we pause, remember, and contemplate what God has done and continues to do for us. So, what might be your “opportunity” this Lenten season?

I Am He … You Are Right

Devotion on Lent, Christian Living, John 18:1-8, Luke 22:70 – 23:1. 1 page.

Have you done or said anything recently that took a lot of courage? Do you know anyone who has? Is there something you should like to do or ought to do that you haven’t had the courage to face?

Jesus is an unsurpassed example of the supreme measure of courage. He knew what He faced when He said, I am He (John 18:5b), to the group of men who had come to capture Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew what humiliation and mockery would follow.

Life Light — Mustard Seed

Life Light

In the Word

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light … (Isaiah 9:2a).

Of the Word

As Christmas time approaches in the northern hemisphere the days get darker. The short hours of sunlight remind us that the year is drawing to a close. The lights in our homes go on earlier, and we spend less time outdoors than we did only a month ago.

We may notice, too, another kind of darkness — the darkness of families who struggle to make ends meet, who mourn for a loved one, who suffer serious illness, who weep in despair. This is the kind of darkness Jesus came to shatter. He came as the Light Who replaces the darkness of soul with hope, comfort, encouragement, and strength.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, God's people bring His light to a sin-darkened, pain-filled world. The Gospel's Good News gives hope to the hopeless. With His great light in us, we can reflect His light to all who live in darkness.

Walking with my Lord

Lord Jesus, light my life with the light of Your Word and the brightness of faith in You. Amen.

God Knits (Psalm 139:13–14)

Devotion on our Relationship with God, Psalm 139:13–14. 2 pages.

For you formed my inward parts;
    you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
    my soul knows it very well (Psalm 139:13–14).

Despite our insecurities, God tells us we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” God made me [you, us] wonderful. You were knit/created by a God, the same God who created the world.
